Prom...

So... there's a school prom next week. Thursday. A week today. And I can't decide whether to go or not. I mean... it'd be nice to do something other than food shopping, staring at the computer and homework, which is what I usually do on a Thursday, but... who I am supposed to go with? :/ I mean, it's not as if I'm going to have a queue of guys waiting to ask me out. And I don't quite fancy spending several hours by myself, drinking glass after glass after glass of Coke.

I know who I would like to go with, though...

'Elliot Minor' Album Review

What do you get if you get McFly, put them in a bowl with Fall Out Boy and add a sprinkle of 'Harry Potter'? Elliot Minor's self-titled debut album, that's what! A mixture of pop/punk that will have you head-banging for ages, beautiful piano-led rock that will bring a tear to your eye and the occasional dose of classical music that will calm you down after all that jumping up and down like a loony for no reason whatsoever, this album showcases the varying talents and styles of this pop/punk five-piece that came out of the blue a year ago.

1: 'Time After Time'

The album opens with a dose of piano-led Muse-style melodic rock in the form of 'Time After Time'. One of the 'hardest' on the album, this is one of those songs where you dance about around the room like mad from start to finish. One of the best, for sure.

2: 'Parallel Worlds'

The break-through debut single that was re-released a week before this is the second track. The ultimate rock chick/god karaoke/party anthem, this almost McFly-style pop/punk tune will have you on your feet jumping up and down/dancing around your bedroom like crazy, singing very loudly and banging your head from start to finish. I just recommend not putting this on late at night unless it's Halloween/you want to freak yourself out...

3: 'The White One Is Evil'

This is the musical version of all the spooky bits in 'Harry Potter'. Verging on the edge of My Chemical Romance-style emo with loads of eerie violins and pianos, this is fit for a horror movie, especially if it involves a stalker, with the lyrics it's got. I do love the classical solo bit, though...

4: 'The Liar Is You'

Pass the tissues, pass the tissues! This is the first of a duo of piano-led ballads that are best listened to if there is a box of tissues near by. With one of the best choruses I've heard in a long time, the lyrics will make you want to rip your heart out, whilst the tune will make you want to cry and cry untill you can't cry anymore. Beautiful is the only way to describe it...

5: 'Lucky Star'

Here is the second half of the ballad duo. Also beautifully sad, this is one of my favourite tracks, because it's also very sweet and the piano is just breath-taking... I just can't listen to it without feeling like I want to cry my eyes out!

6: 'Jessica'

Fans of Jessica Alba, this is your anthem! Part of the soundtrack to my summer in 2007, this opens with the best drum solo I have ever come across in all of my years of existence. Fall Out Boy-style pop/punk accompanied by the usual dose of  violins and a cello gets you jumping up and down screaming your head off about Jessica Alba, with some of her movies obviously being used to disguise what the boys are really after! Cheeky sods!

7: 'The Broken Minor'

This is one of my big favourites. Sweet and lively, this is the song that sums up everything I love about Elliot Minor - catchy lyrics, huge solos and a tune that, after two or three listens, becomes one of those that you will recognize  instantly! Great work, guys!

8: 'Still Figuring Out'

Ok, here comes the light-hearted McFly-style stuff! Cute, fun and addictive are the only words fit for a description of this song. It's like the boys have been dunked into a bowl of sugar and then been told to write a tale of friendship... One of my major favourites!

9: 'Silently'

Choirboys! This is a song that really shows off the vocal harmonies that the boys have - they really do sound like ex-choirboys! The piano is the best thing about this song - it's nice and calming; a nice breath of fresh air in a song. Lovely.

10: 'Running Away'

Here is another one of my major favourites. It's yet another one that has McFly written all over it, but in a much more mature way... Fun and catchy, this one you can dance about to in your bedroom over and over again! Love it.

11: 'Last Call To New York City'

The album finishes on a sing-along track that reminds me a lot of Busted's stuff from 'A Present For Everyone' - please don't let it just be me! Catchy, fun and with a fab chorus, I wish they'd release it!

So, overall, this is a brilliant album that you should be rushing out to buy if you like your pop/punk fun, cheeky and catchy! Good work, Elliot Minor!

Boy, Boys, Boys!

Today was an eventful day at school for me concerning, yep, you guessed it, boys! Two, yes, two things happened today involving me and the opposite sex. Which is more than usual. Much more than usual.

The first thing is this: At the start of break this morning (not that we get an afternoon break) Alex, my crush, suddenly came up to me, put his arm around me and complimented me on my legs. Only God knows how embarrassed I was, and no-one was even paying attention (I hope)! My face is burning hot now, typing this!

Now for the second thing: Last lesson I got stuck and my teacher (who I have a slight crush on, by the way!) had to help me. It's bad enough having to get help understanding something that everyone else has already grasped, without having a really fit male only 2-3cm away from you, even if it is a teacher!

I don't know what's more embarrassing, the first thing or the second thing!

Any musicians out there...?

Any musicians out there who need some lyrics?

I write my own lyrics and have been since late 2006, and I have come to the conclusion that it is about time that I have something done with them. So... anybody out there who needs some lyrics, or writes music and wants to collaborate? It is preferable that you live in London, UK, but it doesn't matter where you live as long as it is possible for us to communicate easily. My main influences are:

  • Elliot Minor
  • McFly
  • The Feeling
  • Scouting For Girls
  • Kate Nash

My Idols

I don't know about you, but I have idols, and they are:

Ali Paul

I'm hoping to learn how to play my keyboard soon and if I could play it like anyone, it would have to be him. He's amazing, and the amount of energy he plays with leaves me awestruck.

Kate Nash

She's truly unique, which is what I want to be!

Lily Allen

She's her own person and isn't afraid to voice her opinions, which I admire.

James Morrison

He's who reminds me that I don't need good grades to be successful; he failed his A-Level in Music, yet he still managed to get a No*1 album.

Tom Fletcher

I write lyrics and he's the one guy I look up to a lot, songwriting-wise.

Busted back together?

There's rumors going round on YouTube that Busted are getting back together!!! Has anybody else heard them?

I hope they're true! Busted are my favourite band ever! :) And I'd be in heaven. Nu-boyband (like my word?) heaven. It would be:

  • Busted
  • McFly
  • Elliot Minor
I hope they're true!

'Elliot Minor' Album Cover Art and Track Listing

Ok, so most of us know already that the album is out on the 14th of April (YAY! :D) but not everyone knows what the cover art's going to be or what the tracklisting is. So I thought I'd do my good deed for the day and post the cover art and tracklisting on here.

Here's the cover art:

I like it - it's very mysterious looking, which sums up the band (well, what they would like to be seen as), and it's eye-catching, which means it'll be easier to find when I go to buy it. :)

And... here's the tracklisting:

1: 'Time After Time'

2: 'Parallel Worlds'

3:  'The White One Is Evil'

4: 'The Liar Is You'

5: 'Lucky Star'

6: 'Jessica'

7: 'The Broken Minor'

8: 'Still Figuring Out'

9: 'Silently'

10: 'Running Away'

11: 'Last Call to New York City'

The only problems I have with this is that three of my favourites ('Jacky Jules', 'Breaking' and 'So Here We Are') aren't on there. :( Apart from that, all is fine. Now it just needs to be released so that I can have about forty-five minutes rocking out to Elliot Minor. Can't wait!

I'm In Love... (I THINK!)

Ok, so I seriously think I'm in love with Alex, my crush. I really do. Every time I see him, I just keep thinking "Agh!" because my heart aches. Ok, that's kinda cliche, but I've never felt this way about anyone. That's how serious it is. And all the time my head's going "Tell him how you feel, tell him how you feel." and it isn't making me feel any better. I mean, what if he doesn't like me back? What will I do then?

And... how can I be sure these feelings aren't just a normal teenage girl crush? That's what's really doing my head in.

Elliot Minor Album News (x2)

I've Made Up My Mind...

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who took part in my 'Should I tell him how I feel?' poll. It was much appreciated. :) Here are the results from ten people taking part.

Yes: 90%

No: 10%

So... I've made up my mind. I'm going to tell him. The only problem is... how am I going to tell him, and what do I do if he doesn't like me and, well, rejects me? I mean, I've got some ideas, but as this is the first time I've ever felt like this about about anyone (yeah, I'm not lying!) I don't know if they'll work. Here they are:

Asking him out:

  • Casually asking him to have a private chat and telling him.
  • Leaving a letter in his bag for him to find.
  • Casually telling him I've got a confession to make, then telling him.
Not a lot, I know. :(

What to do if he rejects me:

  • Listen to the most depressing songs that I can get my hands on.
  • Write some very depressing lyrics about heartbreak and rejection.
  • Cut myself off from all male contact as much as possible (I've got a little brother) until I get over him and I move on.
  • Do the fiirst point, then listen to lots of happy songs to cheer myself up.
  • Do the second point, then write upbeat lyrics about not needing a boyfriend to be happy.
  • Drool over random celebrities who I think are hot/cute just for the sake of it.
What do you think of my ideas? What would you do? If you could tell me in the comments, that would be much appreciated. :)

The Feeling - 'Join With Us'

'Join With Us' is the second album from London and Surrey-based indie/pop band The Feeling. It's still the same band that released the future classics 'Sewn', 'Fill My Little World', 'Never Be Lonely' and 'I Love It When You Call' a few years ago, but with a twist: they've added a load of toe-tapping disco to their sound! Might sound like a weird thing to do at the moment, but don't worry, it actually works, and very well! Here is the track-by-track review.

1: 'I Thought It Was Over'

It opens with lastest single 'I Thought It Was Over'. Those who are from the UK most probably would've heard it already, but for those who haven't, here's a warning: You'll be dancing and singing it for days if you're not careful! This highly infectious love song based around the Berlin Wall (no, I'm not joking!) is full of disco flavour with a load of sing-along lyrics and had me 'caught in it's trap' for a while - basically I became slightly obsessed with i!

2:  'Without  You'

This is a beautiful, heartfelt song about the Virginia Tech shootings and Dan's (the lead singer) views about it (the band were in the area at the time) that's one of my favourite tracks. It's very downbeat in feel but still keeps the new 'disco' sound - though not a lot. It also has one of the best lines I have ever come across: "It's raining hard in North Virginia, just like London Town" - just how heartful and beautiful is that single line?

3: 'Join With Us'

Here comes the toe tapping! The title track jumps in at number three with a big chunk of cheese, yes, cheese! This '80s-estque pop gem is sure to get your feet tapping away from start to finish - that's what it does to mine anyway! It's even got an ridiculously catchy bit that goes "ring, ring, beep, beep, ahaha" that gets stuck in your head like superglue! What more do you need in a disco/pop classic?

4: 'Spare Me'

I must admit, I was dreading this at first because I had read online that "it's in the same vein as 'Rose'" and I don't like 'Rose' - in fact I find it quite boring! So I was pleasently surprised when I heard this and it turned out to be a Coldplay-estque (with a hint of disco, of course) piano-led indie tune that brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it. Much better than 'Rose'!

5: 'Turn It Up'

The next single in the UK, 'Turn It Up' is my personal favourite! It's got a chorus that stays in your head for ages (trust me, I know what I'm talking about!) and a tune that just shouts out "pop gem!" at you and might make you think they've been listening to The Who a bit too much (at the start). So... I reccomend you don't listen to this just before you get into school/college/work/whatever in the morning unless you can be sure you won't start singing it at random moments of the day for no reason whatsoever...

6: 'I Did It For Everyone'

There's always been songs (like 'Hey, Jude' by The Beatles, for example)  that get loads of people singing it in usion like some big karoke event, and on 'Join With Us' this is that type of song. With a "big, joyful chorus" near the end (the words in the album sleeve, not mine) this is what I would consider to be the 'Join With Us' version of 'Fill My Little World' that most probably will be sung at karoke nights in holiday bars if it's released, with it's happy-go-lucky tune and in-your-head singalong lyrics! It's also got a toddler singing at the end, which is very cute!

7: 'Won't Go Away'

This is a more, how shall I put it, poppier song than the rest. The reason I say that is because it has all the traits of a pop song - it's catchy, has a chorus that just won't leave you alone, and the piano intro is very light-hearted and poppy. Definatly good if, like me, you like their poppier stuff best.

8: 'Loneliness'

This is one that is very smile-inducing (ironic, don't you think?) because the way it's sung is very funny (in a good way, of course!). Despite the title, it's not sad at all, with a nice little tune that takes you back to the days of 'Twelve Stops and Home'. Very similar message to 'Never Be Lonely' though, me thinks...

9: 'Connor'

This is one of those songs that will touch loads of people's hearts, like 'How To Save A Life' by The Fray. It's about someone who wants the life that Connor's got (whoever he is). It's very piano-led and drops the majority of their new 'disco' sound in favour of indie that gets to you so quickly that by the third listen, you'll need a box of tissues... At least, it does that to me.

10: 'This Time'

Some of you might recognise this as the B-side to 'Never Be Lonely', but for those who haven't heard it yet, it's on here for you. It's yet another one of my favourites on the album, with fantastic lyrics and a beautiful tune to go with them. The lyrics that really get to me are the ones in the chorus: "I'm going to do it properly this time. Gonna get it right, gonna get it right...". Don't know why, they just do...

11: 'Don't Make Me Sad'

This is one of those songs that has ridiculously catchy lyrics and a big, beefy tune! The chorus is just perfect for singing along to, but unfortunatly doesn't do as much for as me as the other tracks. Not that I don't like it...

12: 'The Greatest Show On Earth'

This is, in my opinion anyway, the most beautiful song on the album. It's a love song with a sadness behind it, rather like 'Chasing Cars' by Snow Patrol. It's one of those proper, proper tear-jerkers... but I still love it.

Music Is My Life...

That saying is so cliche, but do you know what? I don't give a fuck. Want to know why? Because music is the one thing that's helped me through so much over the years - in a way that talking to my mum or best mate can't.

I know I probably won't be making any sense at the moment to some of you who are reading this, but hopefully it'll become clearer as you keep on reading.

It's true what I said at the begining though. It's like this:

I've had a crush on a guy at school for a while now, I think it's been a few months, and I haven't told anyone. But whenever I listen to a song like 'Sewn' by The Feeling or 'Chasing Cars' by Snow Patrol on my last.fm paylist, Windows Media Player (on shuffle) or on TV, I get this kind of odd feeling that it's telling to tell him how I feel.

Also, music is the one that matches my mood most of the time, so when I'm in a certain mood, I put on certain acts/albums/singles that match it. It's like these examples: (they're my three main moods, by the way)

Happy:

  • McFly - 'Room On The Third Floor' (album) and 'Star Girl'
  • The Feeling - 'Fill My Little World' and 'Love It When You Call'
  • Scouting For Girls - all of the stuff I've heard so far is happy, happy, happy!
  • Elliot Minor - 'Still Figuring Out'
  • Generally cheesy pop - cheesy = happy :)
Sad:

  • The Fray - 'How To Save A Life' (single)
  • Snow Patrol - 'Chasing Cars'
  • McFly - 'The Heart Never Lies'
  • The Beatles - 'Hey, Jude'
  • Piano-led indie that has very powerful lyrics
Hyper:

  • The Pigeon Detectives
  • The Wombats
  • My Chemical Romance - 'Teenagers'
  • Elliot Minor - 'Jessica' and 'Parellel Worlds'
  • Music that I can jump up and down to like a looney :D
Right, I think I've rambled on enough.

Happy Valentine's Day '08

Happy Valentine's day to all you lovers out there!

I didn't get anything this year. Not that I mind - I wasn't expecting anything anyway. I was going to send my crush a letter I'd typed up,. printed out and put in an evelope that I was going to try to sneak into his bag... but I tore it up yesterday. How stupid of me, don't ya think? Below is the letter.

*

Hi, Alex. This is probably going to sound really, really stupid… but I’ve developed a crush on you! There, I’ve said it. I know we don’t talk much anymore, but I think the reason I’ve developed a crush on you is because you make me smile and feel good. Yeah, I know that sounds really corny, but it’s true.

So… just wondering: do you feel the same way?

Lisa xx

*

Soppy, ain't it? But the reason I wrote is because I'm much too scared to tell him how I feel...

Now I've just to wait and see if I get anything next year...

There's a picture of him in my English Poetry Anthology, and he's quite hot!

Yeah, I know Pete's hot, but c'mon, people, look at Joe! Hottie or what?

Billie Joe Armstrong

He may be getting old, but he's still fit!

Not only is he hot (in his own little way) he's also funny. Perfect formula!

Jack Penate

Is it just me who thinks he's quite cute in his own little way?

Ten Celebs I Wouldn't Mind Being Related To

I'm sure not everybody does this, but sometimes I daydream about being related to celebrities. Here are 10 random celebrities I wouldn't mind being related to:

Ed Minton

He's cool and I could hang out with him and the rest of Elliot Minor.

Kate Nash

I could ask her for style tips - I love the way she dresses!

Lily Allen

She'd be fun to hang out with and I'd get to meet her cute little brother!

Tom Fletcher

He'd be a cool older brother, and I'd get to hang out with the rest of McFly. What more could a girl like me (a massive McFly fan) want?

Hayley Williams

We could rock out for hours.

David Tennant

He'd be a cool dad, and he'd be able to let me in on all the juicy secrets about 'Dr. Who' (if I did my 'puppy eyes' at him, ha, ha).

Ben Stiller

He'd be a really funny dad, and he'd be able to cheer me up like that.

Theo Walcott

He'd be a really fun older brother and he could teach me a few footie (soccor) tricks.

Damon Albarn

He'd be a really fun dad to hang out with.

Mark Ronson

He'd be a mega-cool dad, and I'd get to meet his famous friends (I hope!)

'The Fury'

Here is a short story called 'The Fury' which I did last year for my GCSE coureswork (in year 10). It got given a B. What do you think of it, and what grade would you give it?

*

After her husband left, Mrs. Fletcher sat on the armchair, still warm after he had been sitting on it all morning. Sinking back, she closed her eyes and thought “How dare he? Does he really think I’m that stupid?” For some reason the warmth of the armchair eased the pain raging through her mind, even though it had been Fletcher who had sat in it last. After roughly two minutes of complete silence, she went into the kitchen and poured herself a glass of water.

As she slowly sipped the water, the freshness of it cooling the anger in her heart, something popped into her mind. The “other woman”, the rabbits. That was all that Fletcher had ever cared about. Not her, even though they had been together for five years and had been married for three. It didn’t matter how much love and affection she showered him with, he lavished all of his on the other woman and the stupid, stupid rabbits! Gulping the last of the water, she slammed the glass onto the cold granite worktop where it shattered into a thousand pieces. But Mrs. Fletcher didn’t care. Leaving the shattered pieces of glass, still wet, on the floor and worktop, she stalked outside.

Out in the garden all was quiet. Mrs. Sykes had gone inside, leaving her washing fluttering gaily on the line. Mrs. Fletcher walked over to her own washing and stared at Fletcher’s clothes hanging innocently. The suit he had been wearing the night before, his blue, red and white striped boxers, all of his clothes from the last two days, they were all hanging there. Hanging there as though everything was fine! As though it was any other normal day! Anger raged through her body then and she grabbed the suit that he had been wearing the night before. Ripping it harshly off the line, she flung it onto the lawn. It began to rain. Leaving the suit on the ground, swamped by mud and rain, Mrs. Fletcher walked over to where the rabbits dozed.

As her hand slowly crept towards the door handle, it began to rain heavily and there was a sudden clap of thunder. With rain running down her face, she opened the door. Images of Fletcher in bed with the other woman raced through her mind as she walked in and stared at the rabbits sitting innocently in their cages. Suddenly an image of a crying Fletcher appeared in her mind and she almost regretted what she was about to do. She walked back into the house and towards the kitchen.

She walked over to the drawer and pulled out an extremely sharp butcher’s knife. She sniggered insanely. She didn’t know why, but she did. She walked calmly back outside. The rainfall escalated into a downpour. As she trudged across the muddy lawn she heard the scuttling of the rabbits in their cages. She screamed. All of the anger and pain that she had felt since the morning came out in that one scream like a fatally wounded animal. She ran towards the shed and at the foremost cage. Wrenching it open, she pulled out a rabbit and stared into its trusting pink eyes. As the rabbit stared innocently into her own eyes, Mrs. Fletcher jabbed at it wildly with the knife. Soon the rabbit was dead, hanging limply in her hand.

Excited by the sight of ruby-red blood on the once snow-white, fluffy fur, and on her hands, Mrs. Fletcher flung the rabbit onto the ground and stamped on it, watching blood spurt out like a burst water balloon. Energised by the rain and the satisfaction that one of the rabbits was dead, she knelt down and stared into one of the cages at a chocolate brown rabbit. It was one of Mr. Fletcher’s favourites; Coco, he called it. Smirking, she whispered “Goodbye, Coco, my dear” as she pulled it out and flung it onto the already dead rabbit. She hesitated. “Should I stamp on it or stab it?” she thought. She made up her mind. Grabbing it around the large stomach, she stabbed it directly between the eyes. Blood poured out like a bath tap. She smiled happily and left it, bleeding, on the ground. Undaunted, she finished the rest off quite quickly.

After killing the fifth and final rabbit Mrs. Fletcher took a step back and surveyed the shed. The floor was blood-stained, some dried dark brown, the rest the same ruby red as when the rabbits had first been killed. The cages were open and their floors glittered with the blood and gore of the rabbits. Mrs. Fletcher smiled, it was the best feeling she felt in a long time, a feeling of pure, whole happiness and a job well done. Turning round, she walked out of the shed and towards the house.

When she got back, all of the anger that had raged through her mind barely half an hour before had dissolved, like sugar in a cup of coffee. She felt like she was on top of the world. Elated, she went upstairs to have a bath.
